Want to lower them?
Well, at Eight Point Properties, we’ve been real estate investing in Fort Worth for quite some time now. And we’ve learned a thing or two about lowering property taxes.
So we thought we’d share some tips!
Request Your Property Tax Card — The first step to lowering your property tax bill is to visit the local assessor’s office and request a property tax card. This card will provide information about the property’s most recent assessment. If there are discrepancies, make sure to address those.
Review Comparable Homes — It’s not just information about your property that’s available at the local town hall… information about all the neighbors’ homes is also available. Look at the assessment information for comparable properties and use that information to appeal and negotiate lower rates for yourself.
Walk The Home With The Assessor — Many people leave their home when the assessor walks it. But that’s a mistake… because it provides the opportunity to point out certain things that need to be repaired in order to lower the value estimate of the property. On their own, the assessor might just notice all of the good stuff.
Consider Exemptions — In many cases, it’s possible to get property taxes lowered in certain circumstances – senior citizen, veteran, certain disabilities, or ownership of agricultural properties. Make sure to review possible exemptions before taking property taxes at face value!
Hope that helps!
